Cyber Security

America may be facing its most vexing national security issue in the myriad threats to its computer networks – most of which are built, owned and operated by the private sector.  Founded on the notion that senior business executives have expertise and experience that can help secure the nation, BENS is uniquely positioned to bring government and the private sector together to address the cyber security challenge.

In Dec. 2008, BENS and Booz Allen Hamilton co-hosted a successful cyber security simulation – Cyber Strategic Inquiry 2008 – in which the nation’s computer networks suffered from a wave of devastating attacks.  Attended by over 230 senior business and government leaders, the simulation revealed the need for government and the private sector to work together on cyber security.

BENS briefed senior government officials and lawmakers on the findings from CSI 08 and steps that can be taken to implement its recommendations for greater public-private collaboration, as well as exploring the possibility of hosting another cyber simulation later this year.

Additionally, BENS provided guidance to the White House on cyber security policies and worked with National Counterintelligence Executive Dr. Joel Brenner to inform American business executives about cyber threats.
