Streamlining Disaster Assistance

When disaster strikes, the private sector stands ready to step up with aid and assistance.  But coordinating this help with government is often difficult.  Now, BENS is taking action to make it easier by working to implement a recommendation from our 2007 public-private disaster response collaboration report, Getting Down to Business.  At the request of the Federal Emergency Management Administration, a BENS team led by Board Member Ramon Marks is working with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to streamline the process for suspending federal regulations during crises so that private-sector assistance can be donated quickly and delivered more effectively.  The trail blazed by HHS could serve as inspiration for other agencies to follow suit.
